Plex media server still works on older hardware but it will automatically disable transcoding if the hardware is insufficient, and playback will suffer and stutter on really old or under-powered hardware. The more users you expect to be watching at once, the better hardware you want. Con esto ya tendríamos Plex funcionando en nuestro NAS, dando el primer paso hacia un mundo increíble, en una siguiente entrega trataremos como configurar tu servidor de Plex. Plex is a powerful software tool that demands plenty from the NAS architecture. In addition to always being on, you’ll want the server computer to have a decent amount of processing power to handle the aforementioned transcoding. Plex also supports Linux, FreeBSD, and even a bunch of niche NAS platforms if youd rather run your server on dedicated networked storage and free up your desktop computer for other things. There’s no point in having a comprehensive streaming solution for all your personal media needs if, when you go to access it, the content is offline. But regardless of what platform you choose, it’ll have to be a computer that’s always turned on. You can install Plex on Windows, Linux, OS X, and even on dedicated server software like FreeNAS and on NAS hardware like the Synology system (you can see all their supported platforms for the Media Server app here). Install the Plex app on your other computers, smartphones, tablets, televisions, streaming devices, and game consoles. First and foremost, you need a computer that houses all the files and runs Plex Media Server. Installing Plex on a NAS with DSM 7.0 is actually VERY similar to that of installing it on a DSM 6.2 Synology NAS, however, there are a few small changes in the process which allow Plex Media Server to access the correct directories. To use Plex, install the Plex Media Server on the computer or network-attached server (NAS) device where you store your music, videos, and other media files.
